Geoff sadly passed away on 2nd January and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He worked for the Peak National Park for 31 years until his retirement in March 2007. Starting as a volunteer ranger, then seasonal and in February 1982 was appointed area ranger for the northern district, covering Holme Moss to the outskirts of Marsden and to his base at Dove stone. His love of the Peak District, it’s beauty and wildness was infectious and he was keen to share his passion for the moors with others. Geoff enjoyed his job taking great pride in his work, the interaction with part-timers, liaising with various authorities and organisations and meeting local farmers, always making sure the North peak was on the map.
Unfortunately in the last few years of his life he didn’t have good health having mobility problems. He really missed the ability to walk the moors. Geoff who was a strong character never lost his interest in music, art and photography or his sense of humour and the delight in telling stories connected with his work. He loved and was loved by his family and took an interest in wildlife and animals (including his German Shepherd dogs).
This website and the projects he instigated in the area are his legacies.
